Question: When is a face shield required, and can a face shield replace safety goggles?
Answer: A face shield is required when the entire face needs to be protected against extensive mechanical or chemical hazards – such as splinters when working with an angle grinder or splashes when decanting acids. However, a visor cannot completely replace safety goggles. As it does not provide a hermetic seal around the eyes against fine dust, gases or vapours from below or from the sides, a visor and safety goggles should be used in combination for maximum eye protection.
