Question: When do you need a bump cap, and what is the difference between a helmet and a bump cap?
Answer: A bump cap is used when protection is required against bumping into fixed, static objects (e.g. pipework or machinery). The difference between a safety cap and a hard hat is fundamental: whilst safety caps are certified to EN 812 and protect exclusively against grazes and impact injuries caused by obstacles, they are insufficient against the risk of falling objects. In sectors such as the construction industry, an industrial safety helmet compliant with EN 397 is therefore a legal requirement.
