Disposable masks are naturally a good barrier against viruses and bacteria. But unfortunately, in the long run, their use is very costly and even if they are disposed of properly, they still lead to a large amount of waste. How can such a situation be prevented?

HeiQ, a Swiss manufacturer, has designed Viroblock Hitech, a mask that can be washed without losing its microbial protection. To protect it from microbes and germs, the mask has been treated with a biocide (active ingredient: silver chloride). In addition to HeiQ Viroblock, the mask was also treated with HeiQ Pure, an antimicrobial odour neutraliser, HeiQ Eco Dry, a water repellent, and HeiQ Smart Temp, an actively cooling inner fabric.

Mouth, nose and the lower part of the jaw are covered by this mask, thus also providing a certain physical barrier against small objects and oily liquids. It can be washed up to 30 times at 40 degrees and has been tested according to the EN 14683 IIR standard. Compared to disposable masks, this one produces about 60 times less waste. It also has an adjustable nose clip.
