How does optimised delivery work in practice?
Let's look at two hypothetical scenarios.
Scenario 1: Standard delivery (usually next business day)
The customer places an order and expects next business day delivery. The order is assigned to the nearest delivery route.
To meet the short deadline, the vehicle departs on its route even if it is not fully loaded.
Result: a greater number of journeys, often underutilized delivery capacities, and a higher carbon footprint of distribution – thus a greater environmental impact.
Scenario 2: Optimised delivery (within 3 business days)
The customer chooses delivery within a maximum of 3 business days. This gives us room to better plan deliveries.
