How to choose the right paper?

Choosing the right paper for your project can be the difference in having the finished piece look outstanding or just so-so! You put a lot of time into your work and it is now time to bring it to life! Here are some tips on choosing your paper:

Paper Weight
Each paper comes in several weights and each weight serves a different purpose. The higher the weight the thicker and stiffer the paper. Think about how thick and heavy you need your paper to be before buying as you do not want one that will also impact your functionality!

Finish
Papers are either coated or uncoated. Uncoated paper is non-reflective like printer paper. Coated papers have dull/matte or gloss finishes. Dull/matte stocks are smoother and more refined than uncoated, but not shiny like gloss papers. The coated papers produce sharper and more vibrant printing.

Lyreco
Lyreco requests that our Paper suppliers produce sustainability reports and have recognized environmental accreditations i.e. FSC or ISO14001, etc. Therefore, all Lyreco office paper products are sourced from mills where environmental issues are a concrete priority. Acclimatization is required where there is a temperature difference from where paper is being stored & used

FSC
In 2018, Lyreco became a member of FSC International. FSC is the world’s strongest certification system in terms of global reach, robustness of certification criteria and the number of businesses involved in the system. They have more than 20 years’ experience. FSC has 28,000 certificate holders in 81 countries worldwide. They work with 150,000 smallholders around the world and one of their ‘new focuses’ is the increased focus on working with indigenous groups around the world.

FSC membership shows the company’s commitment to improving the management of the world’s forests.

PEFC
The Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification provides an assurance mechanism to purchasers of wood & paper products that they are promoting the sustainable management of forests which is based on environmentally, socially beneficial and economically viable management.
